1. Talk to your photographer BEFORE you hire them!

Get them on a zoom or phone call and get a vibe for their personality. Does their personality mesh with yours? Do you have things in common? Do you click? See what I did there. Haha! Seriously, this is really important. You want to hire someone that will get you excited about your senior pictures!

2. Talk to your photographer AFTER you hire them!

Create a Pinterest board for your session and go over it with them. Talk about the outfits you want to wear, go over locations that go with your outfits, and discuss hair and makeup. This could be with an in person consult or even Zoom/Facetime or over the phone.

3. Play music that you love!

Create a playlist for your senior session with all the songs you listen and know. Keep it upbeat to help get you in the dancing mood! Music will help you relax and be more comfortable

4. Choose outfits that are all about “you”.

Are you extroverted and bold? Choose bold and fun outfits! These type of outfits will make your personality shine. Are you more go with the flow and chill? Maybe your outfits should have that sort of vibe. Keep it simple and comfortable!

5. Surprisingly location isn’t everything.

A good photographer can make anything look good. You can have a beautiful tree with flowers right next to a dumpster, but in the picture you would never know! So when we say location doesn’t really matter, we mean it! Did you know t’s really all about the light? Do you like that warm end of day light or the normal clean light found during the day? Once you have that figured out talk to the photographer about the time of day they shoot and ask to see samples of locations during that time.

BONUS TIP!

Editing!!! It is very important you like the way they edit! Be sure you stalk them on social media AND go look at their portfolio on their website. You want to choose a senior photographer that edits in a way that speaks to you. Do you like the clean timeless look, the bright and airy look, the dark and moody…there are so many different styles out there so be sure to look at their portfolios. I would suggest even as going as far as messaging them and asking to see a full session gallery!
