How To Avoid Awkward Senior Pictures, Sacramento County Photographer, MC Senior Photo

We get it! You do not want to look awkward in your photos, especially your senior pictures! We get asked all the time about how to avoid awkward senior pictures. Because we photographed hundreds of seniors over the years in the greater Sacramento area we just happen to have some experience with that! Here are some tips for you about avoiding those awkward senior pictures during your senior portrait session. :)

1. Relax!

Seriously. You've got this! Let your nerves settle and just go with it. All those worries of how to pose will be set at ease once the photographer starts directing you. You do not know how to pose yourself. You really are going to be amazing in your senior pictures!

2. Research!

Hire a photographer who is good at directing and understands how to pose for every body type, especially your body type!

Do your research before hiring a photographer. Meet them in person or over zoom to get a feel for their personality. Watch their behind the scenes stories on Instagram to be sure you will be comfortable with them. That comfort level will ultimately make you feel more confident. You can see some of ours here.

3. Trust your photographer AND the process.

Once you are in your senior session there actually may be times when things feel a little awkward. More than likely this is one of the first time all the attention has been on your for professional portraits. That's totally understandable! But remember back to why you hired your senior photographer in the first place. She (or he) has got your back! They want you to look and feel your best! So trust them and trust the process.

4. Be true to yourself!

Don't try to be someone you aren't. Being genuine with your outfits, your makeup, the locations you choose and your expressions will help you feel so much better during your senior session. Get out that cell phone and practice, have a friend or mom take pics of you to get more comfortable being in front of the camera.

5. MUSIC

put on some music you love and just jam out during your session! This is the ultimate way to calm nerves. Have fun! This only happens once :)
